Use this playbook to translate Malaysian court documents from Malay into clear UK legal English while preserving legal meaning, paragraph numbering, party details and Malaysian court terminology.
It is intended for affidavits, pleadings, originating summonses, witness statements, cause papers and other formal court documents. It is not a substitute for a sworn translator or final lawyer review where certification or filing accuracy is required.
Practical legal consequence
Legal translation is not just language conversion. A weak translation can change the procedural posture of a document, misstate a party's role, omit a qualification, or turn a placeholder into a false fact. This playbook therefore prioritises structure, defined terms, dates, amounts, exhibit references and Malaysian legal terminology.
Suggested workflow
- Extract the source text cleanly from the PDF or Word document.
- Remove OCR noise only if it is clearly not part of the document.
- Translate in batches of about 20 to 30 paragraphs for long documents.
- Keep one source paragraph matched to one translated paragraph.
- After translation, run a separate QA pass against the source text.

Malaysia-specific notes

For example, “Originating Summons”, “Affidavit in Support”, “Commissioner for Oaths”, “Plaintiff”, “Defendant”, “Applicant” and “Respondent” should be chosen according to the actual originating process and party role.
